Growing in Community
Our Growing Spaces connect a developing network of gardens, allotments and growing areas in and around Huntingdon and Peterborough.
Some are established allotments. Some are gardens whose potential as community spaces is being explored. Others are growing spaces within organisations where we work alongside the people who already know and use them.
We work with the place, the people around it and what is already there — growing food, flowers and habitats, caring for and enhancing existing spaces, sharing skills and learning, and creating opportunities for people to take part in ways that work for them.
Our aim is not simply to create productive gardens. We want to nurture places where people, food and nature can grow together.
Bradbury House Community Garden
An already beautiful and therapeutic garden, with so much potential to be shared more widely. We’re building on what is already here — caring for established trees, plants and wildlife while creating new opportunities for food growing, sensory planting and connecting with nature.
As the garden develops, it will welcome more people to spend time, take part and contribute — growing connections between people, place and nature.
The Allotments
Two allotments, each offering different ways to grow, learn and share. Our own is a place where we explore climate-conscious growing - caring for soil, water and wildlife while producing food to share.
With Youth Support Services, growing offers young people a different environment for purposeful, practical activity — a chance to contribute, experience different ways of working and discover new possibilities.
Cambridge Regional College
Working in partnership with Cambridge Regional College at the Huntingdon Campus, we're bringing growing spaces back into productive use and exploring their potential for learning, skills and community connection.
The polytunnels create opportunities to grow throughout more of the year, learn alongside students and staff, and share plants, produce, knowledge and resources across our wider growing network.
Growing with the place
Every growing space is different.
We don't believe there is one way to create a productive or welcoming garden. We start with the place itself - its soil, water, wildlife, existing plants and people - and work from there.
Across our growing spaces we're exploring ways to grow food and flowers while caring for soil, making better use of water, creating habitat and building resilience in a changing climate.
What we learn in one place can help something grow somewhere else.
